OPC laser

The laser has been carefully aligned on its plate. But the whole assembly can be easily removed from the OPC block to clean the lens.

  • before proceeding, check that the column is disconnected from the mCCNC so the laser is off. Laser light can cause permanent eye damage.
  • do not touch the laser surface or the lens with metal objects

Taking the laser assembly apart

Before starting, make sure you have the following tools at hand :
  • a small cross screw driver
  • a pair of tweezers
  • a ~10 cm long wooden stick, ~4 mm in diameter (e.g. a long cotton swab)
  • a black permanent marker
  • a microfiber tissue

Taking off the laser

The laser is held in place by 4 screw, on the opposite side to the spherical mirror. Take off the 4 screws of the laser plate :

and move the laser sideways, to gain access to the lens :

Taking off the lens

Once the laser is removed, you can see the lens, held in place by a clamp :

Take off the clamp :

Using the wooden stick, release the lens by pushing it from the opposite side of the OPC block, and through the slotted mirror (don't take off the mirror) :

Cleaning the lens

Clean the lens with some deionized water and a microfiber tissue, then dry it with the tissue.

  1. Reinstall the lens, flat side against the O-ring. Important : Do not touch the surface with metal tools.
  2. Reinstall the lens clamp. Make sure that all metal part in front of the laser are black. Use a permanent marker to blacken everything, especially the lens clamp screw heads.
  3. Reinstall the laser.
